Marriage isn’t easy; but it can be amazing! With the ease of divorces and many simply deciding against marriage, and let’s not mention how the pandemic came in and changed the dynamics of our whole existence; how can it be amazing, you wonder. It can be the marriage of your dream with proper care and regular “maintenance” such as counseling, marriage seminars/ministries, and attending retreats. Not convinced? Well, even a car has a regular maintenance schedule. Without the simple recommended oil changes, the life span of that vehicle is limited. And if nothing else, we can all agree that Covid-19 has changed our lives tremendously, to include our marriages? We’ve yet to fully comprehend the true damage caused by the pandemic; yet, we all have witnessed some of its aftermath.

In an effort to encourage and inspire couples to fight for their marriages through our personal journey; James and I decided to expand our marriage ministry. Through much prayer and submission, we formed the Fighting for Marriage Couple’s Retreat in 2018 in Birmingham, AL. During this 4-night/3-day weekend, we bring together a small group of couples of all ages and all years of marriage to create a positive environment of investing in our relationship. The retreat’s success is accomplished through many ways such as large group discussions, awesome speakers, wives only/husband only sessions, games, structured activities, and so much more. If your marriage could benefit from a weekend of revitalization, fun, and laughter; this retreat is for you.

1. What is the last day to register? +

Email hosts to check for availability at fighting4marriages@gmail.com

2. What is the registration cost/fee and what does it include? +

The fee covers room and taxes, up to 2 meals, and helps offset the speakers’ accommodations, and other costs.

3. What is the cancellation policy? +

The registration fee is non-refundable; however, you can make arrangements to transfer your registration to another couple. Email fighting4marriages@gmail.com for other options.

4. Can we choose to stay at a different hotel? +

This is not recommended. The Renaissance hotel is a lovely hotel in the middle of a beautiful community that provides the ambiance of a resort on an island. Staying as a residence allows for you to bond with the other guests without the limitations of having to travel at the end of a great evening. Events start as early as 7am daily and often guests hang out late into the night. You wouldn’t want to miss this experience.

5. Can engaged or dating couples attend? +

No, this retreat is designed for married couples. However, separated couples trying to reunite are welcomed. Email fighting4marriages@gmail.com other exceptions.

6. Are children allowed? +

No, there are no accommodations for children. Please consider this a time away from everyday life for you and your spouse to focus on building your relationship and to strengthen your “parenting team.”

7. Is it ok to miss a day? +

We don’t recommend it, but understand that sometimes situations arise causing couples to arrive late, depart early, or miss a couple of sessions.

8. Do we have to share about our relationship? +

No, we don’t encourage anyone to share intimate details of their relationship. However, you may find out how common certain challenges are and want to discuss with other couples on your own.

9. Is this retreat a male-bashing opportunity? +

NO! Absolutely not! This retreat is not designed to ridicule or condemn anyone (wife or husband). It is a positive environment to strengthen the relationship for the wife and the husband.

10. Is this retreat affiliated with a church? +

No. This is an independent ministry however, it is divinely inspired by God. There are no theological presentations; however, throughout the retreat, His presence is recognized and felt.
